Speed matters for Online Stores

Here’s why I’m impressed with Flipkart.com

While I was writing a post on how Online Shopping is growing in India, I made a purchase on 4th April 2012 at 1:44 p.m on Flipkart.com.   I received an SMS confirmation and email that tentative date of delivery is 09 April 2012.

Another email on 4th April 2012  at 10:32 p.m confirmed that the item had been shipped – same day! Is it really possible to be that efficient? I logged into their tracking system to see what’s going on –

It looks like the item reached their facility at 10:32 p.m but the email to me said “we have shipped the items in your order..”. The actual ‘shipping’ started on 5th April 2012 at 9:42 a.m and the actual delivery happened at 11:45 a.m

Effectively, the entire delivery time was less than 24 hours. I’d say this is very very impressive!  This is what matters for online stores. Such efficiency will bring them more customers, it will retain existing ones and ensure that this online store is preferred over others.
